Picking up our phones in the middle of a work session or while studying has become a reflex that is almost impossible to resist. The smartest among us do not even try to rely on sheer willpower, instead turning to apps and services that promise to block out distractions. Sadly, these digital helpers do not always deliver, and sometimes they ask for more time, money, or personal data than most of us are willing to give.

That is where this AI-powered DIY lamp comes in, bringing back the classic method of shaping behavior: immediate, memorable consequences. In this case, it takes the form of a desk lamp that does not just shine a light, but gets hilariously angry when it catches you slacking off. There is something delightfully old-school about a gadget that reacts with a scolding glare and a grumpy voice, all in the name of keeping you on track.

Designer: Arpan Mondal (Makestreme)

It all began as a bit of a joke, the kind of idea you toss out with no real intention of making it happen. But as the pieces started coming together, it became clear that this could actually be a clever way to help people build better habits. Now, the lamp is a real, working device that glows a fierce red and shouts at you whenever it spots a phone on your desk; no excuses, no mercy, just instant feedback.

Building the lamp is surprisingly approachable for anyone with a bit of DIY experience. The main ingredients are a Raspberry Pi 4, a Pi Camera HQ, a ring of programmable LEDs, and a small speaker. Toss in a 3D-printed or laser-cut shell, and you have got all you need. The camera keeps watch over your workspace, while the Raspberry Pi runs a custom-trained AI model that can spot a phone in an instant.

What sets this lamp apart is how simple and effective it is. All the image processing happens right on the device, so you do not have to worry about your camera sending anything to the cloud. The lamp does not keep logs or track your habits, it just reacts in real time, rewarding you with a calming white glow when you stay focused and unleashing its full fury when you slip up. The immediate feedback makes it much harder to ignore your own bad habits.

That does not mean it is perfect. You will need a bit of tech know-how to put everything together and train the AI if you want to tweak what it looks for. The lamp also needs to be placed just right, with good lighting, to do its job well. But for anyone willing to dive into a fun project and who needs a little extra push to stay off their phone, this lamp is hard to beat.

The BERSERK lamp is a captivating synthesis of mythology and modern design, a sculptural light object that channels the spirit of ancient Nordic traditions through a contemporary lens. It’s clean, and architectural lines are not merely aesthetic choices but deliberate echoes of Norse symbolism, where structure and storytelling merge. More than a functional light source, BERSERK stands as a contemplative piece of design, rooted in heritage and elevated by craft.

At its conceptual core lies the Valknut, a geometric symbol linked to Odin and associated with themes of strength, protection, and transcendence. Rather than reproducing the Valknut literally, BERSERK distills its essence into a visual language of intersecting hexagonal frames. These mirrored elements meet at a central wooden joint, creating a symmetrical yet dynamic form. The resulting geometry evokes the quiet mysticism of Norse runestones, imbuing the lamp with both a grounded strength and an ethereal quality.

Designer: Anthony Gael Peraza Martínez+ COLAB, and Eder Osvaldo Aguilar

The lamp’s structure is defined by verticality and precision. Angular planes and deliberate alignments generate subtle tension, drawing the eye upward while maintaining a sense of stillness. This form echoes ancient monoliths, stoic, immovable, and is softened by the refinement of modern minimalism. The tension between these two ideas creates a unique presence: bold yet understated, grounded yet transcendent.

Materially, BERSERK honors the Nordic tradition of woodworking. Crafted from warm-toned natural wood, each lamp is constructed using invisible joinery that preserves the integrity of the material and showcases its grain and texture. The absence of visible fasteners or hardware allows the form to remain pure and uninterrupted, elevating the piece from object to artifact. This meticulous craftsmanship reflects not just skill, but a philosophy, one that values material honesty, restraint, and intention.

Atop this finely crafted structure rests a minimal LED light source, embedded with seamless precision. It is not designed to dominate a space with brightness, but to enhance it quietly. The ambient glow it casts is soft and inviting, fostering a hygge-like atmosphere synonymous with Scandinavian interiors. Its light invites introspection, ideal for quiet corners, intimate gatherings, or moments of pause. It is functional poetry, light not as utility, but as mood.

The design journey of BERSERK began with pencil and paper. Early sketches, inspired by Norse iconography, led to iterative prototypes and digital models. Through careful study of proportion, structure, and light behavior, the lamp emerged as a balanced expression of symbolism and innovation. Each design decision was tested, refined, and distilled to its essence.

Nature has always been a treasure trove for designers, a quiet teacher offering lessons in grace, resilience, and balance. Among all the natural wonders, bamboo stands out as a symbol of calm, its slender stalks swaying gently in the wind yet rarely breaking. There is a certain tranquility in a bamboo grove, a sense that the world slows down, even if only for a moment.

The Bamboo Forest Glass Lighting series brings a piece of that serenity indoors, capturing the gentle spirit of bamboo trees with delicate glass. These pendant lamps do more than just light up a room—they invite you to pause and breathe, to remember the peace that can be found in nature’s simplest forms. The irony is not lost here: glass, so fragile and breakable, is used to echo bamboo’s bendy, flexible strength. It is a quiet reminder that beauty and strength are not always what they seem.

Designer: Fumie Shibata for BROKIS

Each lamp in the series is a testament to careful craftsmanship. Traditional glass-blowing techniques shape the glass into tall, slender cylinders, each one slightly different from the next. The glass thickens at certain points, forming the nodal rings that are the hallmark of real bamboo. These rings are not just for show; they create gentle shadows and subtle highlights, bringing the lamp to life whether it is lit or left in the quiet of dusk.

There is something peaceful about the way these lamps hang, alone or in a small cluster. The hand-blown glass catches the light in a soft, diffused glow, filling the space with a warmth that is never harsh or demanding. The nodal rings, carefully formed by skilled hands, break up the light just enough to add depth and texture, never overwhelming the senses.

The Bamboo Forest lamps do not clamor for attention. They do not need to. Their presence is felt in the way they transform any room into a haven of gentle calm. Whether placed above a dining table or in a quiet corner, they recall the quiet strength of a bamboo grove, standing tall and still, no matter what the world outside might bring.

The artistry involved is impossible to ignore. Each lamp is unique, shaped by the breath and steady hands of a glassblower who understands that true elegance is never rushed. The thickened rings are a detail that could have been skipped, but their inclusion speaks to a respect for nature’s own design, and a desire to do more than simply imitate.

In the end, the Bamboo Forest Glass Lighting series is not just about illuminating a space. It is about capturing a feeling, a moment of stillness, a breath of peace—and letting it shine softly, quietly, for anyone who steps into the room.

Desks have a way of collecting clutter, no matter how organized you intend to be. Pens, cables, and headphones, all seem to find their own place, usually right in the middle of everything you need to get done. That is where the Nanoleaf Pegboard Desk Dock comes in, promising not just a home for your essentials but a splash of color and personality too. It is not just for gamers, but anyone who wants a desk that feels as lively as it is tidy.

The first thing you notice about the Nanoleaf Pegboard Desk Dock is its two-faced charm. One side is a modular pegboard, studded with holes for hooks and pegs. The other is a full LED panel, ready to light up your workspace with color-changing effects or gentle ambient glows. Flip it around depending on your mood, or keep your favorite side facing out for a steady boost of energy or calm.

Designer: Nanoleaf

Unlike ordinary desk organizers, this pegboard does not work that well with traditional trays or bins. Instead, it shines when paired with hanging containers, hooks, and clever little baskets. That means your headphones, keys, cables, and even your fancy new Nintendo Switch 2 are always within reach, but your desk surface stays blissfully open. It is a small touch, but it makes a big difference if you are tired of knocking over cup holders or fishing for lost USB drives under piles of paper.

The lighting side is where the fun really starts. Nanoleaf’s signature LED effects can be customized using their desktop app, so your desk can match your workday vibe or just show off for visitors. The colors can pulse, ripple, or flow in patterns, giving you everything from a relaxing waterfall to a retro lava lamp effect. It is the kind of feature that makes late-night work sessions or virtual meetings just a little more bearable. Sadly, that app is only available for desktop computers, leaving smartphones out of the party.

Practical touches round out the package. The base of the dock includes both USB-C and USB-A ports, letting you charge a phone, connect a tablet, or power up any gadget you need. Everything stays plugged in, but cables disappear into the background, leaving your desk as neat as it is bright. The hooks themselves are sturdy, holding up to three pounds, so you can trust your favorite headphones or even a small plant to stay put.

The Nanoleaf Pegboard Desk Dock is not just for show, though it does look good doing its job. It hits that sweet spot where fun and usefulness meet, giving you a colorful reason to keep your space organized. Whether you are a gamer, a student, a designer, or just a fan of cheerful order, this playful desk dock makes every day at your desk a little brighter and a lot less messy.

While most people probably rely on their smartphones’ flashlights in times when we need a bit of physical illumination, it’s still not always that powerful. There are situations when you would need an actual flashlight, and a strong and tactical one at that, like during power outages, when your card breaks down on a dimly lit road, or in medical and security emergencies. It can also be useful to have a lightweight but powerful device as your EDC or everyday carry gear.

The Nitecore EDC37 emerges as a contender for a reliable and powerful tactical flashlight, boasting an astonishing 8000-lumen output in a design that emphasizes both performance and portability. This USB-C rechargeable, flat tactical flashlight aims to redefine what users can expect from a compact illumination tool. Its lightweight design also makes you rethink about adding this device to your every day bag since you never know when you’re going to need it.

Designer: Nitecore

The standout feature of the Nitecore EDC37 is undoubtedly its incredible 8000-lumen maximum output. This level of brightness is usually found in much larger, search-oriented flashlights, making its inclusion in an EDC form factor truly remarkable. Such power suggests an ability to light up vast areas, pierce through darkness, and handle demanding tasks where visibility is critical. It also has multiple LED configuration so you can switch from wide flood coverage or on a focused throw. The OLED display shows real-time runtime display and output level feedback while the Rapid Lock mechanism with a dedicated switch will lessen accidental activation. The control scheme is intuitive as a circular power button lets you adjust to four brightness levels while the larger mode button lets you play around with the other features.

The flashlight has a runtime of up to 190 hours on the lowest setting but they didn’t specify how long it would last if you use the full 8,000-lumen output. The integration of USB-C charging is another significant advantage. This modern charging standard offers convenience and faster charging times compared to older micro-USB ports. The construction of the Nitecore EDC37 likely adheres to the brand’s reputation for durability. Aerospace-grade aluminum alloy is a common material choice, ensuring robustness against impacts and wear. An anodized finish would further enhance its longevity and resistance to the elements.

All in all, the Nitecore EDC37 8000 Lumen USB-C Rechargeable Flat EDC Flashlight appears to be a groundbreaking illumination tool. Its combination of extreme brightness, a portable flat design, and the convenience of USB-C recharging makes it an exciting option for EDC enthusiasts, outdoor adventurers, and professionals who require a high-performance lighting solution in a compact package.

Jeff Koons’ Balloon Dog sculptures, with their playful form and mirror-polished surfaces, have become instantly recognizable icons of contemporary art. Originally part of his “Celebration” series in the 1990s, these monumental pieces captured the whimsical spirit of childhood and blurred the lines between high art and popular culture. Now, in 2025, the iconic canine takes on new, functional forms, bringing a touch of Koons’ signature aesthetic into everyday living spaces with the Balloon Dog Speaker & Balloon Dog Lamp.

These new devices mark an exciting collaboration with Lexon and The Broad Museum in Los Angeles, a fitting partnership as the latter is an institution that proudly serves as the home to several of Jeff Koons’ original and iconic Balloon Dog artworks. More than simply translating static artistic pieces into functional forms, this officially licensed venture recognizes the pervasive role of technology in our daily routines. By reimagining the Balloon Dog as a speaker and a lamp, two of the most universally utilized items in both domestic and professional settings, Koons’ art transcends the gallery walls to become an integral part of modern life.

Designers: Lexon and The Broad Museum

The Balloon Dog Speaker will have 360 degree sound coming out of the familiar sculptural body. It lets you listen to your favorite songs, podcasts, or audio books while adding a certain aesthetic to your space. There are not a lot of details yet available about the specs of the speaker but based on the initial clips released, there will be touch controls so you will interact with your balloon dog but of course it’s also connected to a smartphone app for easier access.

The Balloon Dog Lamp meanwhile will bring art and ambiance to your space as it has a full spectrum of multicolor LEDs that can be adjusted according to the brightness you need and the colors adjusting to your mood. You can use it to set the mood at night when you’re relaxing, as a light source for when you’re reading a book or journaling, or to slowly come to life as you ease into your morning routine.

The upcoming release of the Balloon Dog Speaker & Lamp in 2025 promises to be a delightful addition to contemporary homes, offering not just sound and light, but a playful touch of art history. Those eager to acquire the Balloon Dog Lamp are encouraged to sign up for pre-order updates to ensure they don’t miss out on this limited-edition fusion of art and innovation.

]]>

There are a lot of brands and studios that you can say have a bit of visual excess when it comes to creating and producing light fixtures. Leora Studios emerges as a breath of stillness, a studio where design is not about noise but nuance. Founded by Hambardzum Vardanyan, they create computationally designed lighting that transcends function to become an emotional and spatial experience. Grounded in Armenia but looking far beyond, LEORA reimagines what it means to create with purpose, technology, and light.

At the heart of their designs lies a reverence for light, not just as a source of illumination, but as the fundamental material of perception. Vardanyan’s background in photography and 3D scanning shaped this philosophy. “Without light,” he explains, “there are no images, only darkness.” This intimate understanding deepened through his work with lidar and photogrammetry, where every photon carries form and data. In this vision, a lamp isn’t a decorative object—it’s a container of emotion, a spatial narrator, a communicator of stillness.

Designer: Hambardzum Vardanyan

What sets LEORA apart is not just its aesthetic but its methodology. The studio doesn’t start with sketches. Instead, it harnesses the generative power of Houdini, a software typically used in visual effects, to simulate natural systems like fluid dynamics, noise fields, and gravity. Each lamp emerges from a digital ecosystem, its form co-authored by code and constraint.

Rather than mimic nature, these pieces are grown from its laws. The result? Lighting sculptures that feel both alien and organic. Each one is a frozen instant of algorithmic evolution, never repeated, never arbitrary. Slight tweaks in the algorithm produce radically different outcomes, yet all remain unified by the logic that birthed them.

LEORA’s base in Armenia is not incidental but elemental. Operating from a country not yet synonymous with luxury design allows the studio to carve a unique voice. This grounding gives LEORA’s work a quiet audacity: a desire to prove that global relevance can arise from unexpected geographies. But the vision goes deeper. LEORA plans to decentralize its production model by empowering local Armenian artisans to 3D print lamps in their own communities. This move not only preserves the craft’s integrity but also creates dignified, skilled labor in regions often excluded from design economies.

“Design should offer the opposite of noise,” says Vardanyan, and LEORA’s creations live this truth. They are not statement pieces in the traditional sense. They are meditations, forged at the intersection of algorithmic logic and human feeling. They are more than a lighting studio; it is a philosophy rendered in form. It invites us to slow down, to listen to light, to consider the systems, both natural and digital, that shape our world. In doing so, it places Armenia on the map of cutting-edge design and redefines what it means to create with meaning in the 21st century.

]]>

Sometimes all it takes is a single striking object to charge a room with a bit of magic. The Foreshadow Table Lamp does exactly that, turning an ordinary surface into a stage where light puts on a show. At first glance, it looks like a study in minimalism, but switch it on and it reveals its true, almost theatrical character.

The Foreshadow’s allure lies partly in its ability to surprise. By day, it sits quietly, its perforated metal skin hinting at hidden possibilities. Come dusk, the lamp springs to life, projecting intricate patterns across walls and tabletops. These shifting shadows ripple outward, transforming a static space into something alive, much like watching sunlight dance through leaves but with an industrial twist.

Designer: Ladies & Gentlemen Studio

There’s a tactile delight in the lamp’s construction that’s hard to ignore. The surface feels cool and slightly textured, inviting curious hands as much as curious eyes. Its shade is made from fine metal, punched with a constellation of tiny holes, each one responsible for a sliver of light that escapes into the room. The effect is both calculated and spontaneous, offering a different impression every time you look.

What’s most captivating is how the lamp doesn’t just illuminate a room, it choreographs the atmosphere. Shadows and highlights drift and overlap, giving depth to spaces that might otherwise feel flat. The lamp blurs the line between functional lighting and sculpture, inviting people to linger just a little longer, watching the slow parade of patterns that never seem to repeat themselves.

Rather than dominate the room, this lamp prefers to collaborate with it. The patterns it casts depend on everything from the color of the walls to the clutter on your desk. Even the time of day and the angle of the lamp’s shade play their part, ensuring the experience is always a little bit different. It’s a dance of unpredictability that designers and collectors can truly appreciate.

There’s also a quiet confidence in the lamp’s presence, a reminder that design can be playful and poetic without shouting for attention. Its understated palette and crisp geometry feel right at home among both vintage finds and contemporary pieces. Even when switched off, it stands as a gentle invitation to imagine what might happen once the lights go low.

The Foreshadow Table Lamp manages to be both a tool and a toy for the imagination. It’s the kind of piece that makes you want to rearrange your furniture just to see what new patterns will appear, or to invite friends over and watch their faces light up with curiosity. Let the lamp do its thing, and suddenly, the room feels like it’s holding its breath, waiting for the next act.

]]>

A lot of product designers who are more environmentally conscious now are looking at sourcing recycled materials when conceptualizing new products. Consumers are also more curious about the ingredients and materials used to create products they are considering and for some, it plays a major factor in that decision. There is also a growing trend towards incorporating a minimalist kind of aesthetic in these sustainable designs since of course we want to use few resources when producing things.

The LANOVA TERRA Biowaste Table Lamp exemplifies the fusion of sustainability and minimalist design.Developed by NOI Creative for Lanova, this lighting solution utilizes agricultural byproducts—such as coffee grounds, rice husks, and wheat bran—to craft a lamp that is both environmentally conscious and aesthetically aligned with Nordic design principles. The Terra lamp stands out by transforming organic waste into a functional and elegant home accessory. By repurposing materials that would otherwise contribute to landfill waste, the lamp not only reduces environmental impact but also brings natural textures and tones into interior spaces.

Designer: NOI Creative

The Terra lamp’s design goes beyond mere aesthetics, deeply embedding principles of sustainability into its very structure. Its compact, modular form is a deliberate choice aimed at minimizing environmental impact from the outset. By allowing the lampshade to nest snugly within the lamp’s body, the overall volume of the packaging is significantly reduced. This not only translates to less material used for packaging itself but also optimizes space during shipping, leading to lower transportation emissions, a crucial factor in reducing a product’s carbon footprint.

Furthermore, the lamp’s aesthetic is carefully considered, with soft curves and a simple two-part construction that embodies the essence of Nordic design. This style, often characterized by its clean lines, functionality, and warm, inviting feel, aligns perfectly with the principles of minimalism, ensuring the lamp remains timeless and avoids unnecessary embellishments that would require more resources.

This thoughtful design extends to the user experience, prioritizing ease of assembly and practical storage. These features contribute to Lanova’s overarching commitment to sustainable living by creating a product that is not only eco-friendly but also seamlessly integrates into a conscious lifestyle. However, the vision behind the Terra lamp stretches far beyond its tangible form. It symbolizes a fundamental shift in thinking, championing the adoption of renewable materials and the implementation of responsible design practices throughout the industry. By boldly showcasing the untapped potential of biowaste in product design, the Terra lamp transcends its function as a mere light source, becoming an inspiring symbol of innovation and a powerful advocate for environmental stewardship within the home decor landscape.

The LANOVA TERRA Biowaste Table Lamp stands as a testament to the powerful synergy between environmental consciousness and minimalist design. By ingeniously repurposing agricultural byproducts, NOI Creative and Lanova have not only crafted an elegant lighting solution but have also illuminated a path towards a more sustainable future for the home decor industry, proving that innovation and responsibility can beautifully coexist.
