Teenage Engineering, long celebrated for turning everyday electronics into design-forward objects of desire, has now stepped away from its audio roots to craft something entirely unexpected: an electric bike. Known for cult-favorite devices like the OP-1 synthesizer, Rabbit R1, and the OB-4 magic radio, the Swedish design firm has built its reputation on creating gadgets that blur the lines between art, engineering, and play. In collaboration with Vässla, a Swedish urban mobility company, the brand has unveiled its first-ever electric vehicle, the EPA1, marking a bold detour into personal transport while staying true to its signature minimalist and modular design language.

The EPA1, or Electric Pedal Moped A, is an electric moped built for slow-speed urban commuting and designed under Sweden’s EPA moped classification. Weighing under 30 kg and equipped with a 250W motor, the EPA1 offers pedal assistance up to 25 km/h. The removable 48V battery, which powers the entire system including the integrated lighting, delivers a maximum range of up to 100 km. Engineered with everyday use in mind, the battery is easily chargeable from standard power outlets and housed in a compact, durable casing, a hallmark of Teenage Engineering’s product precision.

Designer: Teenage Engineering and Vässla

What truly sets the EPA1 apart is its highly modular design. The steel frame is clean and unobtrusive, but designed with purpose. Mounting points allow users to attach accessories or modify components such as fenders and cargo racks without tools. The lighting system is seamlessly integrated, and the handlebar interface (also designed by Teenage Engineering) offers an intuitive, tactile experience that aligns with the company’s tradition of thoughtful UI design. These features are not just aesthetic; they reflect a philosophy of user empowerment and adaptability.

Teenage Engineering’s influence extends far beyond the styling. The design was conceived to be simple, repairable, and customizable. The EPA1’s construction makes it easy to replace or upgrade parts, encouraging longevity in contrast to the often-disposable nature of modern consumer electronics. This approach reinforces the brand’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and smart design, core values seen in their previous collaborations and signature products.

Though this electric bike may seem like a sharp pivot, it fits squarely within Teenage Engineering’s broader goal: to reimagine how we interact with the objects around us. In this case, the company has applied its expertise not to sound, but to motion—redefining urban commuting through an object that’s as functional as it is beautiful. The EPA1 is priced at around €1,800 (approximately US$2,100), making it a competitive entry in the e-mobility market while being more affordable than some of the brand’s premium synthesizers.

Pre-orders for the EPA1 have already launched, with shipping expected to begin later in 2025. For a brand that has built its identity around surprise and delight, Teenage Engineering’s move into electric transport doesn’t feel like a departure, but rather an evolution, one that brings its cult-like following along for the ride.

The 2025 Audi A5 and S5 bring automotive refinement to modern living, where functional capability must coexist with social sophistication. These vehicles understand the nuanced requirements of today’s lifestyle, addressing the complex demands of daily life at the highest levels.

Standing in Space Gallery’s art space in Denver, surrounded by carefully curated installations and the city’s cultural elite, the 2025 Audi A5 felt perfectly at home. This wasn’t coincidence. Audi has created vehicles that excel in any environment, from urban centers to weekend adventures. The A5 and S5 represent a complete reimagining of what mid-size sedans can accomplish in today’s diverse automotive landscape.

The New Aesthetic

Today’s discerning buyers represent refined cultural consumers who expect high-end amenities alongside practical capability. The 2025 A5 family addresses this duality through careful lifestyle integration rather than simple positioning.

The liftback silhouette immediately communicates this understanding. Unlike traditional SUVs that announce outdoor intentions through aggressive styling, or sedans that prioritize urban refinement over practical capability, the A5 presents a refined aesthetic that conceals substantial versatility. During our journey from Denver’s art district to Aspen’s exclusive resort environment, this design philosophy proved its social intelligence repeatedly.

At Blackstone Rivers Ranch in Idaho Springs, the vehicle’s 22.6 cubic feet of cargo capacity stands ready to accommodate everything from business equipment to weekend gear when needed, while maintaining the interior’s refined atmosphere for everyday use. Later, arriving at The Little Nell in Aspen, the same vehicle projected the appropriate image for one of America’s most exclusive destinations. This adaptability reflects deep understanding of how lifestyle functions at the highest levels.

Technology and Safety Integration

The Digital Stage curved OLED display system changes the driving experience into something approaching personal comfort rather than basic transportation. The 11.9-inch virtual cockpit and 14.5-inch center display create an environment that feels more like a private study than a traditional automotive interior.

During our extended drive, this technology demonstrated its lifestyle value through intuitive integration rather than overwhelming complexity. The “Hey Audi” voice control system responded to natural language commands, allowing interaction that enhanced rather than interrupted the driving experience. Requesting navigation to specific destinations, adjusting climate settings, or controlling entertainment functions required no manual interface disruption.

The available Head-Up Display adds another dimension to this information management ecosystem. The configurable system provides 85 percent more display area than previous versions, allowing drivers to access navigation, media, and vehicle functions without removing their eyes from roads. For the first time, drivers can adjust vehicle and infotainment functions directly through the HUD using steering wheel controls, creating a truly integrated command center that keeps attention focused on driving.

The dynamic interaction light represents an integration of ambient lighting with vehicle communication. This LED strip spans the entire width of the dashboard, creating a welcome sequence when approaching the vehicle and confirming lock/unlock status through coordinated light patterns. The system extends beyond basic ambient lighting by providing visual cues that complement the Virtual Cockpit display, such as synchronized animations during turn signal activation that create a more intuitive connection between driver intent and vehicle response.

The available 10.9-inch co-driver display extends this comfort into a true mobile office environment. During the longer stretches of our route, my co-driver could access entertainment, communication, and productivity applications while enjoying Colorado’s dramatic scenery. This capability changes travel time into productive or recreational opportunity rather than transit.

The Bang & Olufsen sound system with 685 watts distributed through 16 loudspeakers creates an acoustic environment worthy of the mountain vistas surrounding us. Four speakers integrated into the optional front sports seat headrests provide personalized audio delivery that can isolate navigation prompts or phone calls without disturbing other occupants. This attention to individual experience within shared space reflects understanding of comfort expectations.

Diverse driving conditions present unique challenges that require advanced safety systems rather than basic driver assistance. Nine airbags come standard across the lineup, while electronic child safety locks can be activated or deactivated from the smart door panel without requiring physical manipulation at each door. These features address family safety needs while maintaining the convenience expected in modern vehicles.

Power and Performance for Any Road

Under the hood, the 2.0-liter TFSI four-cylinder engine delivers 268 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque through a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission. This represents an increase of 7 horsepower and 22 pound-feet over the previous generation, enabling the A5 to reach 60 mph from standstill in 5.6 seconds. The standard quattro all-wheel-drive system distributes this power intelligently across all four wheels, providing the traction necessary for Colorado’s diverse road conditions and elevation changes, while proving equally capable in urban environments.

The S5 extends this capability with its 3.0-liter TFSI V6 generating 362 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. The 13 additional horsepower and 37 extra pound-feet of torque compared to the previous S5 reduce the 0-60 mph time to 4.3 seconds. The standard sport rear differential provides enhanced traction during spirited mountain driving while maintaining composure during everyday use.

During our route from Denver through Leadville to Aspen, these powertrains demonstrated their versatile credentials. The A5 handled elevation changes and varying road surfaces with confidence, while the S5 provided additional performance reserves for more demanding sections of mountain highway. These same capabilities translate perfectly to highway merging, city traffic navigation, and suburban driving demands. Drive select modes allow customization of the driving experience for different conditions, defaulting to Balance mode for everyday driving, with Dynamic mode proving valuable during spirited sections and Comfort mode enhancing long-distance cruising.

Climate Control and Comfort

The three-zone climate control system proved essential during our journey through Colorado’s dramatic elevation changes. Moving from Denver’s mile-high starting point to Leadville’s rarefied air at over 10,000 feet, then descending to Aspen’s 8,000-foot elevation, created microclimatic challenges that the system addressed with precision. This same capability excels in urban environments with varying temperature zones and seasonal weather patterns.

Rear occupants could maintain their preferred temperature settings independently of front occupants, ensuring comfort regardless of individual preferences or varying sun exposure throughout the vehicle. Combined with optional heated rear seats, this creates an environment where all occupants enjoy optimal comfort during extended journeys or daily commutes.

Storage Solutions for Active Lifestyles

Modern living requires vehicles that accommodate diverse equipment needs without sacrificing interior refinement. The A5’s liftback design provides 22.6 cubic feet of cargo space that expands to 36.6 cubic feet with rear seats folded, easily handling everything from ski equipment to art purchases during gallery visits, business presentations, or weekend shopping trips.

The A5’s liftback configuration provides easier access to the cargo area compared to traditional sedan trunks. The 40/20/40 split-folding rear seats offer flexible cargo configurations depending on load requirements.

The additional 2.6 inches of wheelbase translates to an extra inch of rear-seat legroom and 1.6 additional inches of front shoulder room. This increased interior space addresses the practical needs of weekend adventures while maintaining the coupe-like profile that projects appropriate social positioning in any environment.

Pricing and Positioning

In today’s diverse communities, vehicle choice communicates social positioning as clearly as residential address or professional achievement. The 2025 A5 family understands this dynamic through design choices that project confidence without ostentation, capability without aggression.

The A5 Premium at $49,700 provides accessible entry into this social environment while including quattro all-wheel drive, the Digital Stage system, and comprehensive safety features. The progression through Premium Plus at $53,300 to Prestige at $56,150 adds refinement elements like sport seats and advanced lighting technology that enhance social positioning.

The S5 lineup from $62,700 to $70,250 extends this positioning with performance capabilities that address diverse driving demands while maintaining refined character appropriate for exclusive destinations and urban professional environments. The range-topping S5 Prestige offers advanced features including customizable digital OLED taillights that create distinctive visual presence.

Color choices reflect the preferences of today’s lifestyle buyers. Eight customizable digital LED daytime running light signatures on Prestige models allow personalization that extends beyond traditional color selection, creating individual identity within any community context.

Modern lifestyles experience varying seasonal conditions and diverse demands that require vehicles capable of adapting while maintaining high standards. The standard all-season run-flat tires eliminate the need for spare tire storage while providing confidence during unexpected weather changes, whether navigating mountain passes or urban winter conditions.

The 2025 A5 and S5 represent more than transportation; they provide infrastructure for lifestyle at the highest levels. The combination of refined aesthetics, practical capability, and technological advancement addresses the complex requirements of modern living where professional demands, weekend adventures, and social expectations must coexist.

The A5 family succeeds by understanding that true comfort lies in capability that operates invisibly, allowing focus on experiences rather than equipment management. For those who have chosen living at its most refined level, the 2025 A5 and S5 provide the automotive foundation necessary to fully embrace this lifestyle without compromise. The result is transportation that enhances every aspect of modern living, from daily professional activities to weekend adventures, from urban cultural events to arrival at the most exclusive destinations any region has to offer.

]]>

The Kia Elan was never a chart-topping icon, but for those who remember it, it carried a certain charm. A compact roadster borrowed from Lotus DNA, it was Kia’s unlikely flirtation with sportiness in the mid-’90s. Fast forward to today, and designer JinTae Tak is revisiting that lineage, not by replicating the original, but by extracting its essence and reshaping it for the electric era.

The Kia Elan EV concept doesn’t just hint at a new design language, it commits to one. You won’t find soft curves or classic sports car proportions here. Instead, the Elan EV cuts through convention with brutal, origami-like surfaces and a stance that hugs the ground like it’s part of the architecture. There’s no pretense of retro styling, just deliberate, sculpted form driven by the freedoms afforded by EV platforms.

Designer: JinTae Tak

JinTae Tak’s main objective was to use electrification as a design opportunity, not just an engineering shift. With no bulky combustion engine to accommodate, the Elan EV lowers its nose dramatically, resulting in a pronounced wedge silhouette. It’s sharp and aggressive, but not impractical. The side profile is where this decision is most apparent. The car hunkers forward, creating a visual tension that draws your eye from the subtle peak of the roofline down into the low-slung nose. This isn’t just for drama. It’s a studied way of reinterpreting the low center of gravity look of the original Elan, now translated into a closed-top GT form.

Look closely and you’ll notice how many times the same narrow, angular motif repeats across the body. From the pinch at the A-pillar to the fender transitions and the flush door seams, it’s a consistent language of compression and expansion. There’s a kind of visual rhythm in how these angles play with the light, almost architectural.

From the front, the EV’s lighting treatment makes an immediate statement. A series of segmented LEDs span the nose, mirroring the rear lighting in layout and attitude. It gives the car a clear identity, especially in low light. The hood, with its severe wedge, risks looking overly narrow, but JinTae solves this with a visual trick. The wide fender volumes spill out toward the ground, offsetting the narrowness of the centerline and pulling the car visually wider.

Swing around to the rear and the fenders become the main event. Unlike the original Elan’s simple surfacing, the Elan EV revels in volume here. The horizontal gesture is emphasized with precision, letting the taillights slice across cleanly. It’s one of the more direct nods to the roadster roots of the original car, though executed with today’s taste for muscular silhouettes and precise geometry.

Even the wheels are worth a second look. They’re huge, visually enclosed, and likely designed to aid aerodynamics, typical EV priorities. But their styling doubles down on the overall theme, angular, directional, and aggressive.

Given the conceptual nature, there’s no spec sheet, no drivetrain details, and no promises of production. That’s not really the point. The Kia Elan EV is a design study that explores how brands can revisit the past without repeating it. It’s not a tribute to the old Elan. It’s a conversation with it.

Continuing BMW Motorrad’s tradition of pushing the envelope in motorcycle innovation, the DE-02 electric concept is a compelling evolution in the brand’s forward-looking portfolio. Having previously explored BMW’s design-driven approach to mobility, often marked by a fusion of bold aesthetics and engineering excellence, the DE-02 further solidifies this trajectory. Developed in collaboration with the iconic custom workshop Deus Ex Machina, the DE-02 isn’t just another electric bike.

Built on a platform derived from BMW’s previous electric motocross prototype dubbed E-Parkour, the DE-02 is reimagined with Deus’s distinct aesthetic sensibility. Its minimalistic frame, stripped of unnecessary bulk, keeps the structure lightweight while maintaining rugged functionality. The frame is crafted from chromoly steel, chosen for its balance of strength and weight, while the carbon fiber body elements contribute further to reducing mass without sacrificing durability.

Designer: BMW Motorrad and Deus Ex Machina

A bold reinterpretation of the original CE 02, the DE-02 also draws inspiration from the creative universe of Deus Records, blending lifestyle culture with electric mobility. Departing from the usual utility-focused configurations, this version transforms the “eParkourer” concept into a fully functional DJ booth on two wheels. In place of a surf rack, the bike features a bespoke sound system equipped with four Marshall Middleton speakers and a centrally mounted turntable, inviting riders to mix music anywhere, right from urban alleys to remote mountainscapes. The design is elevated with a hand-stitched leather saddle embroidered with the Deus Records logo, seamlessly integrated with the speaker system and turntable setup.

Additional custom touches, such as a tailored license plate holder, modern LED lighting, shortened indicators, and streamlined mirrors, enhance its distinct character, making the DE-02 not just a motorcycle, but a mobile artistic statement. Powering the DE-02 is a 5.5-kWh battery connected to an air-cooled electric motor delivering 11 kW of continuous power, with peak performance reaching up to 20 kW. This output positions it in the 125cc category for licensing in many regions, making it accessible while offering enough torque for spirited off-road performance. Its chain-driven rear wheel and slim, motocross-style design suggest a focus on agility and maneuverability, ideal for both trail riding and urban environments.

The design places strong emphasis on minimalist, utilitarian styling. A narrow profile, slim tank, and integrated seat give it a purposeful silhouette. Elements like the custom CNC-machined triple clamps and a bespoke swingarm speak to the level of detail and craftsmanship applied. The visual design is further enhanced by a simple monochromatic palette and a high-mounted LED headlight that offers a nod to classic enduro aesthetics. Suspension duties are handled by high-performance components: a WP XACT USD fork up front and a WP shock at the rear. The DE-02 rolls on 19-inch Excel Takasago wheels paired with Pirelli Scorpion Rally tires, underscoring its off-road intentions. Braking is managed by a Beringer system that includes disc brakes at both ends, offering precise stopping power.

While the DE-02 is not intended for commercial production, its creation represents a fusion of engineering and artistry. For BMW Motorrad, it’s part of a broader strategy to explore electric propulsion in motorcycling, beyond commuter-focused scooters. It also highlights how the future of motorcycles may not just lie in performance specifications but also in the emotional and cultural identity that design can offer.

]]>

Off-roading is, for now, limited to a handful of people driving in a pickup truck or an expedition vehicle that fits no more than eight. What if you’re a team of 16 or a group of 32 classmates planning an off-roading adventure? Thankfully, Torsus has taken it upon itself to build the “Mad Max of coaches;” a 35-seater off-road bus, which can handle pretty much any terrain you can think of, even if it’s driving up to a live volcano.

This is the Torsus Praetorian, and it has been up to Mount Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe, which is just under 11,000 ft., with Gear Magazine’s Tom Ford in charge. Developed by Torsus, a brand of husband-and-wife-run Pulsar Expo, which is headquartered in the Czech Republic and has its production facilities in Slovakia, the Praetorian is an all-terrain bus based on a MAN TGM 4×4 chassis and created especially for transporting miners, emergency personnel, and more.

Designer: Torsus, All4Bus and Dämmler

Built for harsh environments, the Torsus Praetorian features plastic body panels that are easy to replace. It weighs 13,400 kg, has a 6.9-litre straight-six diesel engine which produces 290bhp and 848 lb-ft torque. That torque is transmitted to all four wheels through a 12-speed gearbox, which paired with air suspension and all-terrain tires makes the Praetorian a ride to be on when you want a tough carrier for your adventure. If you’re thinking how crazy Torsus Praetorian would make for a motorhome? You’re wish is granted!

While an all-electric version of the Praetorian may be in the works, Torsus Praetorian Liberra, a.k.a the ExpeditionLiner, a first of its kind off-road motorhome is almost here. Created jointly by All4Bus and Dämmler, the Liberra is a standard Torsus Praetorian on the outside and in rugged professionalism, with a tweak in the interior to fashion it into an “expedition liner,” a large, bus-sized luxury motorhome fashioned for expeditions. The Liberra comes in two layouts, which are pretty alike in the front portion, whlie the bed in the rear changes completely in orientation from one layout to the other.

On the front (right behind the cabin) is a two-person seating section, with individual seats side by side. The seamless interior is completely open, sans any partitions for privacy. Right behind is the kitchen slab laid out with a four-burner stove and an oven. The sink is on a separate section of the countertop, discreetly keeping the dry area from the wet workstation. The kitchen has ample storage space underneath the countertop and also makes room for a 90-liter fridge.

On the other side, behind the driver seat, is the dinette with two benches and a dining table, a contraption that becomes a double bed by night, ensuring that the Liberra, along with the master bedroom in the extreme end, can sleep up to four people very comfortably. The wet bathroom alongside comprises a shower and toilet. The motorhome’s electrical needs are taken care of by a 3,000W inverter. It has a 250-liter fresh water tank and a rooftop air conditioner for extended time on the rough terrains. All4Bus and Dämmler are planning to get the Torsus Praetorian Liberra into production for approximately $650,000 (€550,000).

The 48 V, 1.2 kWh UL‑certified lithium-ion pack nests under the seat, hot‑swappable in seconds. It recharges fully in approximately 5 and a half hours, or half as quickly with the optional “Super Charger” offering around 40 miles per charge. Weatherproof USB‑A and USB‑C ports in the stem help keep devices powered while riding.

The app- and NFC-enabled phone‑as‑key system allows tap-to-unlock and proximity auto-unlock, with over‑the‑air firmware updates available. Infinite Machine’s “Infinite Security” suite includes GPS tracking, LTE connectivity, a backup battery that keeps systems active even when the main pack is removed, and an audible alarm with motor and steering lock. A discreet AirTag slot and U‑lock–enabled kickstand offer extra protection against theft. The cockpit supports an intuitive user experience. A 4.3″ LCD panel displays ride data, while a phone mount enables navigation and system control. Controls include a twist throttle, reverse, boost, turn-signal switch, horn, and headlight toggle.

At 176 lb, the Olto is heavy for stairs, but its ride-ready design aims to reduce the need for lugging it indoors. The incorporated lights, horn, turn signals, and automatic on/off function enhance visibility and safety in urban environments. Infinite Machine, backed by a16z and angel investors, developed the Olto using insights from its P1 scooter, reorienting the design for broader adoption on bike lanes. The company plans to offer spare parts and partner with service networks ahead of launch.

The highly anticipated 3rd movie in the Dune trilogy by Denis Villeneuve is not coming out yet until late next year but there isn’t a lack of related property to tide you over. The recently released video game Dune Awakening has been making waves and of course you can go back and watch the other movies as well as the recently concluded TV series. But if you’re more into collecting IP-related toys, then this is something you might want to own (if you haven’t gotten it yet, that is.)

The LEGO® Icons Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter is an epic building set, a detailed replica of the House Atreides aircraft as seen in the first movie Dune: Part One. Here you can see it in its magnificent brick form and this meticulously crafted 1,369-piece set is designed for adult builders as it’s one of their more complicated builds. The premium-quality replica includes fold-out, flappable wings, deployable landing gear, and an opening cockpit.

Designer: LEGO

When fully extended, the ornithopter spans about 79 cm (31 inches) wide, 57 cm long, and 23 cm tall. This makes it one of LEGO’s grandest Icons builds. It has a dial-controlled feature that is able to retract landing gear and close the rear ramp. It also has an opening cockpit that can fit two seated figures. This build experience combines system bricks with Technic components, 583 pieces in particular. There are also 75 hybrid parts included as well as new titanium metallic/pearl dark gray minifig body prints (still‑suits), a unique 6×4 wedge angled Trans‑Black windscreen, and eight 40‑module propeller blades designed for realistic flapping.

There are also 8 of the more iconic characters from the novels and movies as minifigs. This includes Paul Atreides, Lady Jessica, Gurney Halleck, Chani, Leto Atreides, Liet Kynes, Duncan Idaho and Baron Harkonnen (sporting his long robe). Once you finish the build, you can display it in either flight or landing modes, whichever scene you’re aiming to recreate. The LEGO Builder app of course has a digital version of the instructions.

Some of those who have built this say that it’s one of the most challenging non-Technic LEGO Icons set but the technically demanding build is of course worth it in the end. It’s a mechanical masterpiece that captures the spirit and scale of Dune. It sets a new benchmark for LEGO’s integration of Technic functionality into Icons-scale builds. Its impressive roster of characters, intricate design, and satisfying interactive features make it a must-have for right‑brained builders with a love for science fiction.

Remember when you were a kid, and Tonka Trucks were the undisputed kings of the sandbox? Well, designer JinTae Tak seems to have had the same thought, channeling that raw, indestructible energy into the Cyber Tonka, a vehicle that looks ready to tackle anything from rush-hour traffic to a zombie apocalypse.

Think of the Rezvani Tank as the Cyber Tonka’s older, slightly more refined sibling. The Tank, with its military-inspired design and optional bulletproof armor, caters to a very specific clientele. Tak’s design, however, feels like a Rezvani Tank distilled through a Cybertruck filter, all sharp angles, flat panels, and an unapologetically brutal aesthetic. It’s less about luxury and more about a raw, utilitarian vibe.

Designer: JinTae Tak

And that’s where the Cybertruck comparisons become inevitable. Both vehicles share a design language that throws conventional automotive styling out the window. The Cyber Tonka, though, leans even harder into the “cyber” part of the equation. The flat paneling, the polygonal wheel design, and even the font used for the “G07” badging all scream digital dystopia in the best possible way.

Look at the sheer verticality of the greenhouse, transitioning into the sloped hood, a design choice that would make most automotive designers shudder. Yet, on the Cyber Tonka, it works. It reinforces the feeling that this vehicle prioritizes function over form, ruggedness over refinement. The tires, with their chunky treads and geometric cutouts, are purpose-built for off-road domination.

I appreciate the subtle details, too. The integrated light bar on the front bumper, the roof rack that looks like it was salvaged from a Mad Max set, and the “Phantom Sweep” logo on the side panel, they all contribute to the Cyber Tonka’s distinct personality. This concept feels like a vehicle designed for a world where roads are optional, and survival is paramount.

It’s easy to dismiss the Cyber Tonka as another futuristic fantasy, but there’s something compelling about its design. It challenges our notions of what a car should look like and embraces a bold, uncompromising vision of the future. Whether you love it or hate it, you can’t deny that it makes a statement. And in a world of increasingly homogenous automotive designs, that’s something to be celebrated.

Sure, it probably wouldn’t pass any pedestrian safety tests. Yes, the interior is likely as spartan as a Soviet-era bunker. But who cares? The Cyber Tonka isn’t about practicality. It’s about making a statement. It’s about reminding us that cars can be more than just transportation, they can be expressions of our wildest imaginations. And that, my friends, is why I’m so drawn to this unapologetically bonkers design.

Airstream’s collaboration with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation has resulted in the Usonian Limited Edition travel trailer, a camper that merges midcentury ideals with contemporary craftsmanship. The 28-foot trailer is designed to be more than a mobile shelter. It is a carefully considered space that aims to bring the comfort and cleverness of home onto the open road. With just 200 units planned, it enters the market as a limited and distinctive offering, shaped by both American design history and thoughtful engineering.

The exterior retains the classic Airstream silhouette, with its rounded aluminum shell and polished surfaces. It feels familiar, yet on closer inspection, some flourishes nod to Wright’s architectural vocabulary. The trailer sits low and balanced, inviting a sense of groundedness. Subtle touches, such as custom badging and discreet rock guards, give the trailer a sense of quiet confidence, while also providing practical protection and a hint of exclusivity.

Designer: Airstream x Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation

As you enter the trailer, the connection to Wright’s Usonian philosophy becomes immediately apparent. The interior is organized for everyday living, with a focus on convertible spaces and built-in functionality. The dining area can quickly shift to accommodate lounging, meals, or work, while generous windows encourage a strong link to the outdoors. There is a sense of warmth brought by the handcrafted details, including a leaf motif inspired by Wright, which adds a gentle layer of artistry to the space.

The kitchen is arranged for ease and efficiency, with compact appliances, custom cabinetry, and clever storage solutions. Counters are positioned for comfortable meal prep, and the layout keeps everything within reach. Throughout the camper, lighting has been selected to enhance the feeling of space and bring a sense of calm, echoing the natural light that played such a significant role in Wright’s buildings. Every element is placed with intention, creating a seamless flow from one area to the next.

The rear hatch is an impressive feature, opening up the living space to the landscape beyond. This direct connection to nature is a hallmark of Wright’s philosophy and is especially appealing for those who value both travel and tranquility. The trailer is built to withstand the rigors of the road, with protective features and a durable frame, yet the interior remains a place of comfort and relaxation. It is a camper designed for those who appreciate both movement and stillness.

Airstream’s limited edition model is not simply a collector’s item. Its value lies in utility and in the way it brings together comfort, functionality, and timeless design. For those who see travel as an extension of living well, this trailer offers a space that is both practical and poetic. The collaboration with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation feels honest, resulting in a camper that honors the past while providing for the needs of the present. It is a refined approach to life on the road, accessible to a select few, but aspirational in its vision.
