Every cyclist has that perfect bike. Maybe it’s the vintage road bike that fits like a glove, or the trusty commuter that’s conquered thousands of miles. The thought of replacing it with some bulky, expensive electric contraption feels wrong, but those hills keep getting steeper and your daily rides could use a little boost. What if you could keep riding the bike you love and save money while adding serious electric assistance?

Created by former Huawei and BYD engineers, the Kamingo conversion kit changes everything about how we think about electric bikes. Instead of forcing you to choose between your beloved ride and electric assistance, this groundbreaking, lightweight system transforms any bicycle into a powerful 750W electric machine with 90km/55mi range in just 10 seconds. You get the best of both worlds without compromise, without a heavy price tag, and your bike stays exactly the way you want it to look and feel.

Designer: Ray Shan

Weighing just 2.3 kilograms in total, the Kamingo system consists of 3 smart components that work together seamlessly. The handlebar controller manages everything from power delivery to battery monitoring. A sleek, 266Wh EV-grade battery pack slides into your standard water bottle cage, looking like it belongs there from the factory. The small (0.9kg) rear motor attaches to your seat stay using a quick-lock mechanism that’s both secure and instantly removable. Thanks to this modular and lightweight design, Kamingo doesn’t add much weight to your bike, allowing you to carry and store it easily, unlike other conversion kits and e-bikes.

What makes this system remarkable is how quickly it transforms your ride. Initial setup takes just 3 minutes, and once everything is mounted, you can attach or remove the motor in 10 seconds flat. No professional tools required, no complicated wiring, no permanent modifications to your frame. It’s like having a detachable superpower that you can engage whenever you need it.

The motor delivers an impressive 750 watts of peak power through direct contact with your rear tire, allowing you to enjoy max cruise speeds of up to 20 mph (for the US, with peak power adjusted accordingly to meet EU and UK regulations). This friction-drive system means no wheel rebuilds or complex installations, just smooth, quiet assistance that kicks in exactly when you want it. The Pressure-Adaptive Technology automatically adjusts contact pressure for consistent performance whether you’re climbing steep grades or cruising on flat roads.

Assist Mode

Cruise Mode

Standby Mode

Three distinct riding modes give you complete control over your experience. Standby mode lets you ride naturally without any motor intervention, perfect for those days when you want the pure cycling experience. Assist mode provides intelligent pedal assistance that amplifies your effort while keeping you actively engaged. Cruise mode takes over completely, giving your legs a break when you need it most.

Switching between these modes happens instantly while you’re riding, thanks to the system’s innovative intelligent motor management. The transitions feel completely natural, with the motor adjusting gradually to maintain smooth power delivery. You can go from full electric assistance to natural pedaling without stopping or fumbling with controls, making every ride perfectly tailored to your energy level and terrain.

The 266Wh capacity battery is seriously impressive, using 16 automotive-grade 21700 cells, the same kind used in electric vehicles, for reliable energy output that delivers over 90 kilometers of range in assist mode. Magnetic charging gets you back on the road in 3 hours, while the built-in USB port keeps your devices powered during longer adventures. Regenerative braking even captures energy while you slow down, extending your range naturally.

Automatic Fall Detection

Safety features are built into every aspect of the system. Tilt detection instantly cuts power if your bike tips beyond safe 45-degree angles. IP66 weather sealing protects against rain and dust. Kamingo can also detect small debris like rocks and twigs on the wheel and automatically disengages the motor before they become a problem. The ultra-quiet operation stays below 56 decibels, making it nearly silent during use. Finally, remote Bluetooth locking adds security when you’re away from your bike. And because the motor is so lightweight at 0.9kg, almost as light as a MacBook, you can even take the motor with you in case you can’t safely leave it on your bike.

Perhaps the best part is how the Kamingo preserves what makes cycling great while eliminating the barriers that might keep you off your bike. Joint strain decreases, hills become manageable, and longer distances feel achievable. You’re still pedaling and still getting exercise, but now you have the backup power to extend your adventures without exhausting yourself.

The system disappears into your bike’s design, maintaining the clean aesthetic you love while adding transformative capability. When you don’t need the motor, it pops off in seconds and fits in your backpack. Your bike returns to its original form, ready for whatever type of ride calls to you next. While others shell out thousands for heavy e-bikes they’ll eventually outgrow, you get the same 750W performance, keep your perfect bike, and save enough money for your next cycling adventure with the innovative Kamingo e-bike converter.

I live in a country where cars are the priority and proper public transportation is only secondary to the concerns of the government and other stakeholders. The result is of course we also have one of the worst traffic situations in the world, not to mention the environmental impact of all those vehicles on the road every day. There is a need for smarter, safer, and more integrated transport solutions. Of course bicycles, scooters, and other alternatives are already there but there’s always room for more ideas.

Xalo: Safety in Motion is a forward-thinking design system that responds directly to this need. This concept is able to merge cutting-edge safety technology with user-friendly features, all while aligning with new road traffic regulations. At its core, Xalo is a comprehensive mobility system that includes an electric scooter and a multifunctional urban hub. It’s built for everyday riders who demand both performance and peace of mind in crowded city environments. More than just a means of transportation, Xalo is designed to be an extension of a safe, regulated, and harmonious urban landscape.

Designers: Roberto Del Gesso, Andrea Dalle Fabbriche, Tommaso Triggiani

The electric scooter in particular has several standout features, specifically in its handlebar area. It has an e-ink display that is subtly integrated and angled for easy peripheral visibility. The low-energy screen is able to provide real-time navigation and trip information without distracting the rider. The navigation cues are delivered through both sound and vibrations in the handlebar grips, allowing riders to stay focused on the road. Located at the front of the scooter, the secure compartment for the helmet opens automatically when a ride is initiated, encouraging and enforcing helmet use as part of new road safety laws.

The urban hub meanwhile is a multifunctional unit that has features like preventing improper parking and providing a charging station. Scooter docking is streamlined through a guide rail system, aligning the vehicle perfectly with the charging connector situated above the front wheel. Once docked, two metal cylinders lock the front wheel, preventing unauthorized movement unless a ride is actively in progress. It is able to seamlessly blend into modern cityscapes since it’s designed with aesthetics in mind.

With an emphasis on mandatory helmet use, visible identification plates, regulated parking, and insurance coverage, Xalo ensures that both riders and cities can embrace electric scooters with confidence. It’s not just about moving from point A to B but it’s about moving safely, smartly, and sustainably.

Most airport lounges feel designed by people who never fly. Uniform lighting. Sterile seating. An atmosphere engineered to keep you emotionally neutral. But The View at Brussels Airport breaks that rhythm. Designed by JPA Design, this novel lounge is a lived-in statement about Brussels itself, and they did it with remarkable control over detail, material, and spatial rhythm.

The showstopper lies overhead. A sprawling stained-glass skylight curves across the ceiling, made by local glass maestros Atelier Mestdagh, the same studio known for restoring sacred cathedrals. The form is elliptical, floating above the central bar like a suspended time capsule from the Art Nouveau movement. The colors are muted but deliberate. Four textures of glass play with daylight and LEDs alike. It’s both decorative and structural, anchoring the entire layout around a visual axis.

Designer: JPA Design

The bar beneath it is a curve of blond timber, backed with soft warm light and flanked by plum velvet stools that match the palette without duplicating it. The geometry is disciplined. No jagged lines. Everything flows. Booth seating lines one side, tucked in rows of two, each one semi-private with built-in acoustic shielding and curved lines that soften the strict symmetry of the plan.

This lounge spans over 2,000 square meters. It is organized but never rigid. Zones include dining, social, work, and relaxation areas, but the transitions are handled with subtle material shifts instead of partitions. Carpet blends into herringbone wood. Sheer curtains diffuse light across modular furniture groupings that invite both solo and group use. Chairs are deep, low-slung, upholstered in a mix of boucle, velvet, and woven blends. Nothing off-the-shelf. Every piece looks like it was specified, not selected.

One circular planter bench sits dead center in the relaxation zone, upholstered in a rose-red tone that picks up the hue from the booths without repeating it verbatim. It creates a soft pivot point for the space. Nearby, black-framed glass walls mark out “The Study,” a quiet area lined with armchairs, soft table lamps, and power access tucked out of sight. No screaming signage. No high-gloss branding. Just function, handled with discipline.

The View is now open to travelers visiting the Brussels Airport, marking what JPA Design calls a new era in premium travel experiences.

Navigating city streets by bicycle is an experience that blends independence, speed, and a closer connection to your surroundings. Yet, cycling in the urban landscape also means dealing with shifting weather, crowded roads, and the need to carry essentials in a way that doesn’t slow you down. Every ride calls for a careful balance of safety and convenience—whether you’re commuting to work, running errands, or simply exploring the city’s neighborhoods.

Urban cyclists know that the right accessories can make all the difference. A secure lock offers peace of mind at every stop, while smart lights and protective gear boost visibility and confidence among traffic. The challenge of unpredictable rain or the need to carry bulky items can turn a simple trip into a logistical headache without the right solutions. Today’s innovative cycling accessories are designed to meet these demands, combining clever engineering with practical features to support every aspect of city riding. We have curated ten excellent products designed for cyclists who want to ride smarter, safer, and more comfortably in the city.

1. Omnilock

The Omnilock is a three-in-one accessory that acts as a heavy-duty bike lock, a bright taillight, and a portable tire inflator. Its integrated design means fewer separate gadgets to carry, making commuting more streamlined and convenient. The taillight increases visibility in low light, while the lock’s sturdy construction helps keep your bike secure at public racks or in urban parking spots.

Urban cyclists benefit from knowing they have essential safety and emergency features always at hand. The tire inflator is built directly into the device, so unexpected flats can be handled on the go. Combining these tools into one compact accessory saves space in your bag and reduces the risk of forgetting a critical item during busy daily routines.

What we like

  • Combines lock, light, and inflator.
  • Improves night visibility and security.

What we dislike

  • Heavier than standard locks.
  • Not as compact as basic alternatives.

2. Sherman Bike Backpack

This bike backpack features a flexible tri-fold design with open sides, allowing you to carry large or irregularly shaped objects, like spare tires or boxes, that wouldn’t fit in traditional bags. Adjustable straps help secure oversized items, and the backpack adapts to different cargo shapes, making it ideal for city errands or racing support.

It is great for urban cyclists, as it offers the freedom to carry whatever the day demands, from groceries and packages to cycling essentials. Its adaptable structure means fewer limitations, supporting spontaneous trips and unexpected needs. The open sides add versatility, while the overall design keeps your load steady and easy to manage on busy city streets.

What we like

  • Fits oversized and odd-shaped items.
  • Adjustable, adaptable design.

What we dislike

  • Less protection from rain or dust.
  • It can be awkward with heavy loads.

3. BellBeats

BellBeats is a digital bike bell that doubles as a Bluetooth speaker, mounting easily to your handlebars. It delivers clear, customizable alert tones for safety and can stream music, navigation, or calls from your phone. Its compact design keeps your cockpit tidy, while the rechargeable battery ensures consistent performance on daily rides.

BellBeats makes it easy for cyclists to alert pedestrians and vehicles, even in noisy city environments. The ability to switch between bell functions and speaker mode adds convenience, letting you stay aware of traffic or enjoy entertainment without removing your hands from the bars. It’s a smart solution for both safety and enjoyment in the city.

What we like

  • Dual function as a bell and a speaker.
  • Customizable tones for alerts.

What we dislike

  • Needs regular charging.
  • Music quality is basic.

4. vabsRider Bicycle Saddle

The vabsRider saddle features a split, movable seat design that adapts to your pedaling motion. This dynamic movement reduces pressure on sensitive areas and aims to prevent soreness, allowing for longer, more comfortable rides. The saddle’s engineering helps distribute weight more evenly, supporting healthy posture and reducing fatigue.

Urban cyclists are offered increased comfort, especially on longer commutes or frequent rides. The unique design helps alleviate the discomfort that can come from traditional saddles, making daily cycling a more inviting option. With less pain and better support, city riders can focus on navigating traffic and enjoying their journey.

What we like

  • Reduces pressure and soreness.
  • Moves with the rider for comfort.

What we dislike

  • Unusual feel at first use.
  • May not fit all seat posts.

5. Flitedeck

Flitedeck is a carbon fiber smart handlebar that integrates a touchscreen, built-in headlight, and wireless connectivity (Bluetooth, ANT+, WiFi, 5G) into one cockpit. The system provides instant access to navigation, performance data, and lighting, all without cluttering the handlebars with separate devices. Its carbon construction keeps it lightweight and sleek.

It is important for cyclists to have all essential controls and information in one place since it increases both safety and convenience. This integration helps reduce distractions, letting you focus on the road. Real-time data and built-in lighting make city rides easier to manage, especially when navigating unpredictable traffic or dimly lit streets.

What we like

  • Integrated touchscreen, lights, and connectivity.
  • Streamlined, lightweight design.

What we dislike

  • Heavier than non-digital bars.
  • Advanced setup required.

6. STAN Airbag

The STAN Airbag backpack deploys an airbag in 0.1 seconds during a crash, protecting your head, neck, chest, and back. The backpack includes an integrated back protector, offering added safety even without airbag deployment. The system is rechargeable and designed for everyday use, making it a practical upgrade for regular city cycling.

For urban cyclists, this backpack brings peace of mind on unpredictable streets. The rapid-deploy airbag provides an extra layer of safety beyond a helmet, while the back protector helps shield against impacts. It’s a valuable choice for riders who prioritize safety on busy or high-risk commutes.

What we like

  • Fast-deploying airbag protection.
  • Extra back protection is built in.

What we dislike

  • Heavier than standard backpacks.
  • Needs regular charging and checks.

7. Soft Top Cover

The Soft Top Cover is a bike-mounted rain and wind shield that attaches quickly to most handlebars. It keeps your upper body, legs, and shoes dry without the need for rain gear. The cover tracks with your steering, is lightweight, and can be easily installed or removed for convenience.

Urban cyclists benefit by staying dry and visible in wet weather, turning rainy commutes into manageable rides. The cover’s design is streamlined to reduce wind resistance, and its compactness allows easy storage when not in use. It eliminates the hassle of changing clothes or carrying extra rain gear for city trips.

What we like

  • Full-body rain and wind protection.
  • Easy installation and removal.

What we dislike

  • Not as compact as a poncho.
  • It can be awkward in strong crosswinds.

8. Aerohead II Helmet

The Aerohead II Helmet stands out with its aerodynamic, elongated shape and full wraparound visor. Its design reduces wind resistance and protects your eyes from the sun, dust, and debris. The helmet meets strict safety standards and is built for both speed and protection, with ample internal padding for comfort.

Urban cyclists gain the advantage of improved safety and efficiency, particularly on fast commutes or when sharing busy roads with vehicles. The extended visor enhances field of vision and shields you from the elements, while the helmet’s streamlined profile helps reduce drag, even in stop-and-go city traffic.

What we like

  • Aerodynamic and protective design.
  • Extended visor for sun and debris.

What we dislike

  • Bulky for casual use.
  • A distinctive look may not suit everyone.

9. AirBell

The AirBell is a discreet bicycle bell that doubles as an anti-theft device by hiding an Apple AirTag inside. Its universal design fits standard handlebars and is easy to install, requiring just a single screw. The bell itself is made from aluminum for a classic, clear ring, while the rugged clamp uses fiber-reinforced plastic for added durability. The hidden compartment keeps your AirTag out of sight, adding a layer of security without drawing attention.

The AirBell offers peace of mind and real-time tracking to cyclists, making it easier to locate your bike if it’s lost or stolen in a crowded city. The ability to use Apple’s Find My network gives riders a modern solution to bike theft, all while maintaining the bell’s core function for safety. The compact, affordable design makes it a practical upgrade for anyone who wants to protect their ride without extra bulk.

What we like

  • Discreet AirTag holder for tracking.
  • Simple installation and universal fit.

What we dislike

  • Only works with Apple AirTag.
  • Bell sound may be quieter than larger bells.

10. The LIVALL LTSW21

The LIVALL LTS21 wireless earphones are purpose-built for cyclists, featuring an open-ear design that preserves situational awareness while you ride. Unlike traditional earbuds, the LTS21 can be used with most cycling helmets thanks to modular attachments, including a secure sports band and a unique helmet bracket that mounts the earphones directly to your helmet. This setup ensures the earphones stay in place whether you’re riding, running, or working out.

It offers urban cyclists the ability to listen to music, podcasts, or take calls without blocking out essential city sounds like car horns, traffic, or warnings from other riders. The open-ear design prioritizes safety, while the hands-free features support convenient communication on the go. Riders can interact with voice assistants and remain connected, all without compromising awareness on busy city streets.

What we like

  • Open-ear design maintains situational awareness.
  • Helmet-friendly mounting for secure use.

What we dislike

  • Audio quality may not match in-ear earbuds.
  • Open design may let in wind noise at high speeds.

Electric bicycles have surged in popularity as more people seek eco-friendly transportation alternatives that still provide the convenience and speed needed for daily commutes. However, the hefty price tag of most quality e-bikes, often ranging from $1,500 to $3,000 or more, puts them out of reach for many cycling enthusiasts. This barrier has created a growing demand for conversion kits that can transform standard bicycles into electric-assisted rides, offering an affordable upgrade option for beloved bikes without the need for expensive purchases.

The LIVALL PikaBoost 2 e-bike conversion kit enters this market as a standout solution. Unlike conventional conversion kits, it doesn’t require a DIY master to install, disassemble, and reassemble as needed. This sleek design attaches to virtually any bicycle in minutes, providing instant electric capabilities that can be engaged or disengaged at will. And unlike conventional conversion kits, it doesn’t require a DIY master to install, disassemble, and reassemble as needed. 1. Four Riding Modes for Any Scenario

The versatility of the LIVALL PikaBoost 2’s four distinct riding modes tops the list of reasons cyclists are falling in love with this conversion kit. Standby Status keeps the unit attached but inactive for traditional riding, while Assist Mode provides intuitive power that responds to your pedaling effort. Based on user feedback, LIVALL’s latest firmware upgrade delivers a smoother, more natural e-bike experience with two adjustable assist levels for customized riding. For those long stretches of road, Cruise Mode maintains a steady speed without constant pedaling, and the innovative Workout Mode actually adds resistance to your ride for fitness training. It can even reverse charge the bike, generating power while you exercise. LIVALL’s patented AAR2.0 algorithm intelligently syncs with your pedaling rhythm, delivering up to 500W peak power assistance that naturally matches your riding style while reducing knee strain.

2. Effortless Installation, Easily Switch Between Bikes

LIVALL PikaBoost 2’s thoughtful design emphasizes simplicity and adaptability, with a quick installation process that requires no permanent modifications or additional wiring. The compact unit attaches securely to your seat post, maintaining your bike’s aesthetic while adding powerful electric capabilities. The mobile app features automatic calibration that ensures a secure and accurate setup. Perhaps most impressively, transitioning between electric and traditional riding requires just a tap on the app’s standby button, no tools or disassembly needed. And if you get the extra seat clamp, you can quickly transfer and install the kit across multiple bikes.

3. Ride Safer with 5 Layers of Protection

Ever since its founding, LIVALL has always prioritized rider safety, so it’s no surprise that the PikaBoost 2 boasts five integrated protection systems that provide peace of mind during every ride. The intelligent Fall Detection immediately cuts power if the bike tips over, while Slip Detection prevents wheel spin on wet or loose surfaces. LIVALL PikaBoost 2 also features fall tilt detection that stops the assistive motor when it tilts more than 30 degrees and starts an emergency contact countdown if the tilt exceeds 60 degrees. Rounding out the safety package, a bright LED taillight increases visibility to other road users, especially during turning and braking, making the PikaBoost 2 as safety-conscious as it is performance-oriented.

4. Travel Anywhere with Airline-Friendly Batteries

A flexible power system is another compelling reason to choose the LIVALL PikaBoost 2, with two battery options tailored to different riding needs. The robust 220Wh model delivers impressive range, up to 70km (43 miles) on a single charge, making it ideal for longer commutes or weekend adventures. For frequent travelers, the 158Wh version is airline-approved while still providing up to 50km (31 miles) of assisted riding. Both models feature replaceable batteries for extended journeys and offer convenient charging options, either through the integrated tail port or by removing the battery entirely for charging elsewhere. Even better, those batteries can serve as emergency power banks so you can stop worrying about your phone running out of power during long rides.

5. Smart Riding at Your Fingertips

Complete control comes standard with the PikaBoost 2 through its companion app and the included remote controller. The handlebar-mounted remote lets you adjust settings on the fly without removing your hands from the bars, while the intuitive app interface provides mode selection, detailed ride statistics, battery status, and even a way to share your riding content within the community to exchange ideas and experiences. With this dual-control system, you can always access the LIVALL PikaBoost 2’s features safely and conveniently, whether you’re navigating busy city streets or enjoying scenic country roads.

The LIVALL PikaBoost 2 represents a thoughtful approach to bicycle electrification that respects both tradition and innovation. By offering an effortless installation process, easy switching between modes that make riding less strenuous, comprehensive safety features, flexible power options, and intuitive controls, it provides a more enjoyable and safer riding experience without abandoning their existing bikes. Whether you’re looking to extend your commuting range, tackle challenging terrain with less effort, turn every ride into a smart fitness session, or simply enjoy the option of electric assistance when needed, the PikaBoost 2 delivers a balanced solution that enhances rather than replaces the cycling experience you already love.

U.S.-based Mammoth Overland has a very uncanny manner of naming its high-end off-road camper trailers. WLY, ELE, and now SKL! The contracted names may seem silly, but the potential of these trailers is second to none in the industry. Having built trailers that are compact and off-road capable, the company (through consumer feedback and sales) has realized the drawback of these mobile camping solutions: After use, they require storage space in the garage. Not everyone has the room for storage at home, which is one of the deterrents for people to embrace the lifestyle.

On showcase at the 2025 Overland Expo West, the concept of rooftop camper SKL (Skull) is potentially what Mammoth Overland is realizing as an answer to the problem of storage it confronts. Built entirely from aluminum, without any soft, canvas parts, this rooftop shelter is specially designed for people who lack the ample storage space for a trailer, but want to rejoice the benefits nonetheless.

Designer: Mammoth Overland

Constructed to replicate the convenience and comfort of a trailer in a confined living solution on the rooftop, the SKL has solid walls that fold out and back in origami style. It’s entirely different from the traditional rooftop tents made from soft materials or a combination of hard and soft material. Owing to its solid, aluminum construction, the Mammoth Overland SKL has an insulated shell (it has an R5 insulation rating) and a complete onboard power system for all-season camping.

The conviction with which the SKL is conceptualized, you may be forgiven for not knowing that this is perhaps only the rooftop campers from the company. It offers the compactness and convenience of a rooftop tent, while its ideology is borrowed from the rugged trailers the American manufacturer has been perfecting for years. It gathers what the Mammoth Overland customers love the most about their trailers and moves it up to the top of the roof, making the 89 inches long, 59 inches wide, and 18 inches tall SKL a livable portable power station.

The sizable space on the inside of the rooftop camper can accommodate a full-size bed to sleep two adults comfortably. It has LED lights inside, a roof-mounted electric fan above the bed, and auxiliary flood lights on the outside to light up the campsite or the tailgate party. All of these are powered by the onboard battery pack, which is supplied its juice by the solar panels on the rooftop. The space within the SKL is naturally well lit and airy, thanks to the porthole windows and side panels which hinge outwards to allow in air on a hot afternoon. With a payload capacity of 500 pounds, the SKL can let you carry your bikes and kayaks along, if you may. Mammoth Overland is targeting to release the production model of the SKL later this year, some changes to the final version are likely from the concept displayed at the Overland Expo West.

Exposed electronics, a nerdy-meets-cyber aesthetic – surely you must think this is one of Teenage Engineering’s latest projects, but nay. It is, in fact, from Japan-based Hachisanmaru, also the force behind the NIXOID watch from back in 2021.

Dubbed the ‘Protect A’, this custom case and strap combination make the Apple Watch look quite unlike anything you’ve seen before. It looks hacked together, like something you’d find in the game Watch Dogs or on a hacker Reddit thread. Underneath that nerdy exterior, however, sits a standard Apple Watch, doing the same old same old, like tracking your steps, sending you notifications, and being your personal handheld assistant.

Designer: hachisanmaru

The Protect A guards your watch with a fairly chunky stainless steel housing that turns your sleek watch into a gadget-core device with thick bezels and a rugged design that still feels light on your wrist. The cover-case is adapted to fit the 40mm as well as the 44mm model of the Apple Watch, with an external crown that works in conjunction with the Watch’s own rotating crown. Meanwhile, the underside still exposes the sensors that enable all the Watch’s heath functions and its charging feature.

The case comes in two colors – silver and anodized black, as do the straps, which boast mono and colored variants. Each strap comes with faux circuitry parts, like wires, resistors, transistors, actuators, etc., designed to make the strap look like a part of the watch’s kooky mechanics. The elements are embedded into a leather strap, looking fairly MacGyvered together in a way that would please any nerd but might piss off the TSA at an airport. No seriously, maybe avoid wearing this around security personnel if you don’t want to get stared at or questioned!

The ultimate goal of the Protect A is to house and guard your watch, which this case/strap duo does fairly well. The Protect A starts at roughly $70 USD, which might pinch at first, but not after you realize that you’re literally getting a stainless steel case and strap together. If, however, you don’t like the idea of cladding your Apple Watch with chunky accessories, hachisanmaru also sells its nixie tube watch as a much more holistic retro-inspired wearable.

Hardcore outdoor enthusiasts would believe when I say that campervans have their own share of advantages, but when it comes to getting to that most amazing place at the end of the paved road, accessible by vehicle, they fall flat on their nose – not that they have one. Nose, is a prerequisite of a truck, which with a camper box on its back, can actually transform into that amazing home on wheels you can take to so many beautiful places well far and beyond the paved roads.

Outpacing a range of such campers is the Baja Trail LX by Rossmonster. The Colorado-based company, which is known for building exceptional vehicles for outdoor exploration. Backed on a Ford F350 with 50-gallon diesel fuel tank offering up to 600 miles of range, the Baja camper is designed for off-road and off-the-grid adventures. Sitting on the bed 11.5 inches of off the ground, with Carli suspension, and upgraded wheels and tires to assist, it allows you to explore the uncharted terrain with more confidence than ever before.

Designer: Rossmonster

The fiberglass shell Baja Trail on the exterior makes provision for charging slot – to keep the towing EV charged – storage to haul your adventure or sporting gear along, and a fold out table to maybe install a portable BBQ grill and spend a nice afternoon with family under the sun. On the inside, the camper is filled with natural light and offers panoramic views through the large, awning style windows around its perimeter. The space is not only well lighted; it has a high 78-inch interior height wherein a 6-foot 5-inches tall person can stand upright easily. The Baja Trail XL – XL for luxury – is hard-walled pop-top camper with a top the retracts to create this extra space on the inside.

Since the hard-top camper is stitched plush to the bed of the Ford truck, it has a well-insulated enclosure with heat and AC for year-round comfort, making the Baja Trail a capable all-season camper without a doubt. To ensure no lapse in the finesse and to separate the happening in the cabin and the camper, the pass-through is “insulated for a quiet ride, superior climate control, and easy access.” The long-term, self-sustainable living is ensured by 1000 AH Lithium Iron Phosphate battery, which stores power from 600W onboard solar panels, and is paired with 3000W invertor for backup power. The water requirement is taken care of by a 40-gallon fresh water tank.

The interior of the Baja Trail XL is pretty spacious for its build, at the rear end is the seating area with nicely upholstered seating and a swiveling table, which turns from living and dinning area in the day to a two-person bed by night. The camper can easily accommodate four people, the remaining two of which can sleep in the cab-over-bed. The kitchen alongside is well equipped for preparing home-cooked meals. It has a two-burner induction cooktop sitting on a spacious countertop, a sink with faucet, and a mini fridge. Most exciting edition onboard is the full-size wet bath with a cassette toilet and a hot water shower. This ultimate camping ride for the wilderness starts at $379,984, what do you think?

AltoVolo Sigma Tries to Redefine Personal Flight With Hybrid eVTOL Aircraft https://www.yankodesign.com/2025/05/08/altovolo-sigma-tries-to-redefine-personal-flight-with-hybrid-evtol-aircraft/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=altovolo-sigma-tries-to-redefine-personal-flight-with-hybrid-evtol-aircraft Thu, 08 May 2025 15:20:28 +0000 https://www.yankodesign.com/?p=551060

AltoVolo is pushing the boundaries of personal flight with its latest announcement: the Sigma, an eye-catching entrant in the rapidly evolving eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) market. Where most eVTOL designs feel like a compromise between drone and helicopter, Sigma breaks away with a fresh approach to both style and engineering. Industry watchers and aviation futurists are taking notice of AltoVolo’s ambition, not just to disrupt, but to redefine what personal air mobility can look like.

What sets Sigma apart is its promise to outperform both traditional helicopters and the newest generation of eVTOLs by a wide margin. One of the most striking features is the aircraft’s noise reduction: the company claims Sigma operates at a level 80% quieter than helicopters. And it’s not just about stealthy arrivals; Sigma’s projected 500-mile range is roughly four times greater than many current eVTOL competitors, putting regional and even intercity trips within practical reach.

Designer: AltoVolo

Peek under the hood and you’ll find a hybrid-electric propulsion system that’s both efficient and innovative. Sigma pairs a patent-pending tilting electric jet mechanism for take-off and landing with the sustained flight capability of a high-density liquid fuel engine. That means enough punch for vertical hops from driveways, rooftops, or even yacht decks, combined with the stamina needed for true long-distance journeys. With a cruise speed of 220mph, passengers can traverse vast distances in less time than ever imagined for personal aircraft.

Design-wise, Sigma takes inspiration from the world of high-performance automobiles rather than conventional airplanes. The silhouette is compact and sharply sculpted, measuring just 4.8 meters wide and weighing 980 kilograms even when carrying three passengers. Compact enough for residential areas, its size and quiet operation make it a realistic option for landing in places helicopters could never dream of.

Beyond the technology, AltoVolo’s vision is equally compelling. The company is looking beyond selling a product and is pitching a new mode of connected air transport that bypasses the limitations of public infrastructure and urban congestion. The dream is to make flight accessible for daily commutes, short business hops, or quick weekend getaways, all without the headache of terminals, timetables, or overburdened city roads.

By combining advanced aerodynamics with a hybrid powertrain and a focus on user-centric design, AltoVolo’s Sigma stands out as a bold leap in the eVTOL and helicopter markets. If the company delivers on its promises, the Sigma could be a bellwether for a new era where taking to the skies is as routine as jumping in a car. For anyone excited about the future of personal mobility, AltoVolo’s Sigma is one to watch.
