I’m a huge coffee and tea drinker and yet over the past couple of years, I’ve been drinking these beverages more outside the house at cafes and restaurants. Ideally, I should learn to make my own coffee and brew my own tea as it’s cheaper and also it should be fun to experiment with methods and recipes. I’ve made a lot of excuses as to why I’m not doing this yet and one of those is that I’m looking for the perfect tools and accessories that will make the experience better.

When I saw this Ovalware Collection designed by Aleš Boem, I thought they would fit in perfectly with what I’ve been dreaming my home cafe should look like. This collection is a celebration of form, function, and the art of brewing which is perfect for anyone who finds joy in the little moments of their daily coffee or tea ritual. Each piece is a study in minimalism, with soft, oval contours (since it’s for Ovalware after all) that feel as inviting as they look. The collection includes a range of glassware and accessories, all unified by their gentle curves and a sense of quiet sophistication.

Designer: Aleš Boem

The glass carafes and cups are visually light, yet they have a presence that stands out on any countertop or coffee table. The subtlety of the oval shapes isn’t just about aesthetics but also about how these objects feel in your hand, making every pour and sip feel special. The designer’s approach goes beyond mere appearance. The tactile experience is central to the Ovalware Collection. The smoothness of the glass, the comfortable grip of each handle, and the balanced weight of every piece reflect a deep understanding of user experience. For those who appreciate design that delights all the senses, these details make the collection a joy to use.

What’s particularly wonderful about the Ovalware Collection is how it elevates the act of brewing. The set includes a sleek, transparent carafe which is ideal for pour-over coffee or loose-leaf tea brewing, along with matching cups and a coffee dripper. The transparency of the glass invites you to appreciate the brewing process, turning it into a meditative ritual. Watching your coffee bloom or your tea infuse becomes a moment to pause and appreciate. Collectors will find the modularity and stackability of these pieces especially appealing. Their uniform shapes allow for beautiful arrangements, whether displayed on open shelves or lined up in a dedicated brewing nook.

Each piece in the collection looks like an invitation to slow down and savor the experience of making and enjoying a hot beverage. The restrained color palette and timeless form mean these items will never feel dated and they’re designed to be cherished for years, perhaps even passed down as heirlooms. Every item is both a functional tool and a work of art. The collection bridges the gap between everyday use and collectible design, making it perfect for those who curate their homes with intention and care.

]]>

Space travel is often portrayed as a realm of high technology and daring exploration, but daily life in orbit hinges on details we rarely consider on Earth. Eating, for instance, becomes a challenge when gravity is no longer a reliable companion. Latvian designer Klinta Locmele has addressed this issue with her Zero collection, a line of tableware specifically designed for microgravity environments. The collection is designed with the astronaut’s needs in mind, aiming to make every meal in space feel as close to home as possible.

The collection is built around the question of how to eat comfortably in zero gravity. Traditional plates and cutlery do not work when food threatens to float away at the slightest nudge. Locmele’s solution involves engineered forms and materials that keep food contained and accessible, removing some of the awkwardness from daily routines in space. Curved surfaces and secure lids help meals stay put, letting users focus on eating rather than chasing after runaway crumbs or droplets.

Designer: Klinta Locmele

Functionality is at the heart of this design. Each piece is meant to be intuitive, even for someone floating freely in a spacecraft. The collection’s pieces fit comfortably in the hand, and the ergonomics are tailored for gloved or bare hands alike. There is a sense of familiarity in the way each element feels, which is a rare comfort in the unfamiliar environment of space. The materials are easy to clean, lightweight, and safe for repeated use, ensuring that practicality is never sacrificed for aesthetics.

The Zero collection includes a reusable silicone bowl with a narrow base that keeps food gathered, and a suction cup that secures it to surfaces. The accompanying spoon has a deep well and an angular shoulder, making it easy to scoop up soups and preventing liquids from sliding down the handle. The plate features grooves that use capillary action to contain sauces and spikes that hold bite-sized morsels steady for a fork or knife. Locmele even designed a ceramic teapot for the ritualistic pleasure of drinking hot beverages in orbit. The teapot’s interior contour triggers capillary action, and its spout works as a straw, allowing astronauts to enjoy hot drinks in a way that feels familiar and comforting.

The collection’s value goes beyond mere function. Mealtimes can be deeply psychological, providing astronauts with moments of normalcy and connection. Locmele’s tableware is designed to foster this connection, using shapes and colors that evoke everyday dining rather than sterile, utilitarian tools. The tableware becomes a subtle bridge between worlds, turning a meal into a ritual that grounds the mind as much as it nourishes the body.

The unique selling point of the Zero collection is how it centers the human experience. Locmele approaches every curve and contour intending to make astronauts feel cared for and at ease, even in extraordinary circumstances. This empathy-driven design sets the collection apart from other space tableware, which often focuses only on technical solutions. The result is a thoughtful and personal product, offering comfort and reassurance far from home.

Not to gross you out, but exactly a week ago, I had a tooth extraction. My surgeon told me to strictly consume cold foods, which meant everything, even my go-to cups of coffee and tea, had to be either chilled or at room temperature. I brew my coffee using a French press, and my tea gets made the traditional way on a stovetop. So the only way to really cool the drinks down was to use ice cubes – while it got the job done, the ice also significantly diluted my drinks, taking away most of their flavor. The IceQuick Neo promises to provide a great workaround.

Designed to be an instant-cooling tumbler that takes your coffee from warm to iced, or your beer from insipid to chilled, the IceQuick Neo comes with a unique hollow design that has liquid gel on the inside. Similar to the gel found in the cooling packs used for food packaging and even for cold-compresses, this gel sits enclosed within the tumbler’s dual-wall design. Place it in the freezer and it chills down to frigid temperatures, turning your tumbler into the ultimate cooling vessel. Pour any drink in, and the tumbler actually chills your beverage down – without ice, without dilution, and in just 2 minutes.

Most dual-wall tumblers are designed to be insulators – they keep hot things hot and cold things cold – the IceQube Neo is different. The gel on the inside does the work of ice, evenly and rapidly chilling any beverage you put in it. From coffee and tea to water, beer, wine, juice, milkshakes, the works.

The secret to the IceQube’s functionality is two-fold. Firstly, it has a cross-section unlike most tumblers. The IceQube Neo comes with an inner core, increasing the surface area of the cooling action. In layman’s terms, a larger cooling surface means faster, more uniform cooling. The makers behind the tumbler claim the IceQube Neo can cool any beverage down to a sweet 7°C (45°F) in just 2 minutes, and 4°C (39°F) in 3 minutes. That’s a whole lot better than filling your entire glass with ice cubes and diluting your beverage, or using only 2-3 ice cubes and waiting patiently for your drink to cool down (sort of like I foolishly did for a good week).

The second secret lies in the liquid gel that sits between the outer and inner walls of the tumbler. Designed to cool down rapidly, and stay cool for a significant amount of time, this gel is what makes the IceQube Neo so ruthlessly effective. The gel doesn’t freeze even at 0°F (-17°C), and stays liquid so it can effectively absorb heat (which happens at maximum capacity when the gel is in its fluid state). This allows the IceQube Neo to cool drinks down so quickly, without breaking a sweat.

The tumbler itself is designed to perfection too. It comes with a silicone sleeve so your hands don’t touch the freezing metal exterior, and it stands at 7 inches tall and 4.3 inches wide at the mouth. The base, however, is a tad bit wide for traditional cup holders, which, if you ask me, is perhaps the only flaw in the tumbler’s design. It’s tall enough to easily fit in your freezer, where you can store it just around half an hour (or maybe a little more) before you pour any beverage into it.

The tumbler holds about 12oz, or a Starbucks ‘tall’, and is designed to be as easy to clean as it is during use. While you can easily rinse it under running tapwater, the IceQube Neo is dishwasher friendly too (top rack only). It comes made with food-grade materials, and even the silicone sleeve is BPA-free.

Each IceQube Neo is available in 2 colors – a gorgeous Navy Blue, and a classic Gray – and ships with a clear, leak-proof lid. Prices start at just $44, with shipping as early as June 2025. Along with your IceQube Neo, maker Espresso Tokyo is also selling a Magma Dripper pour-over lid that fits on top of your tumbler, allowing you to brew (and instantly chill) fresh coffee right in your tumbler, so you can enjoy the iced coffee experience with all its intensity and without the dilution!

5 Best Tea Brewing Tools For Every Tea Lover

Tea is more than a beverage—it’s a ritual, a comfort, and for many, a daily necessity. Whether you’re a casual drinker or a connoisseur with a refined palate, the right tea tool can elevate your experience from mundane to memorable. Today’s most innovative tea brewing accessories don’t just steep leaves; they bring technology, artistry, and sustainability to your cup.

We have curated a collection of the five best tea tools we recently came across – a smart teapot that customizes each brew, a handcrafted ceramic mug that enhances zen moments, a visually striking cold brew device, and a biodegradable tea packaging that merges eco-consciousness with sensory delight. Pick which tool is perfect for your tea rituals!

1. Smart Tea Pot

Tea brewing is often described as both an art and a science. For centuries, tea masters have perfected the nuances of temperature, timing, and technique to create the ideal cup. In the digital age, technology is now stepping in to bring this mastery to your kitchen counter. Enter the smart teapot—a sophisticated brewing system designed to bring consistency, convenience, and personalization to your daily tea ritual.

This device does more than heat water and steep leaves. With an intuitive, app-connected interface, it allows you to choose your tea variety and preferred strength with a few taps. But what truly sets it apart is its deeply personalized approach. The smart teapot utilizes six advanced sensors to monitor your heart rate, finger temperature, and even the ambient environment. By analyzing these factors, it tailors each brew to match your current mood and physical state, whether you need something calming, invigorating, or just right for the weather.

Click Here to Buy Now: $349.00

What we like

  • Adapts brewing style and strength automatically based on your mood and environment, ensuring each cup is uniquely suited to you.
  • Lets you select tea type, strength, and temperature via a user-friendly app, taking the guesswork out of brewing.

What we dislike

  • Requires a smartphone and internet connection for full functionality, which may not suit those seeking a purely analog experience.
  • Advanced features and sensors increase the price point, making it less accessible for those on a tight budget.

2. Pendulum Brew

Inspired by the timeless elegance of Chinese and Japanese tea ceremonies, this device introduces a pendulum effect into tea preparation. Its transparent container allows you to observe every stage of the steeping process. The design is asymmetrical and visually dynamic, evoking the passage of time and the anticipation of a perfect brew. An upper ice compartment lets cold water gradually drip into the tea chamber below, cooling and diluting the tea without the need for refrigeration.

If you’re someone who enjoys watching the slow transformation of your leaves, you can actively engage with the swinging “pendulum” effect as part of the ritual. For busier days, simply add the leaves and water, and place the device in the fridge. This blend of visual appeal and practical flexibility makes the Pendulum Brew an excellent choice for anyone who wants to turn tea brewing into an experience, not just a task.

What we like

  • Allows you to see and interact with the brewing, making cold brew preparation more enjoyable.
  • Use the built-in ice compartment for gradual chilling or refrigerate for a more hands-off approach.

What we dislike

  • Cold brew still takes time, so it’s not ideal if you want tea instantly.
  • The artistic shape may require more countertop or fridge space compared to simpler cold brew tools.

3. Ceramic Cup

Inspired by the traditional craftsmanship of Japanese ceramics, this mug invites you to slow down and appreciate the present. Its surface, reminiscent of cast iron, brings a calm, meditative quality to your tea break. The interior, smooth and cool, provides a pleasing tactile contrast when it touches your lips. The wooden handle offers a comfortable grip and also protects your hand from heat, making it practical and pleasant to hold.

This mug holds a generous 350ml, ideal for extended tea sessions, and its design encourages you to take a breather during even the busiest day. While it’s not microwave or dishwasher safe, the care required to maintain it is a gentle nudge toward intentional living. Perfect for those who view tea time as a small act of self-care, this mug is more than just a container—it’s a companion for quiet moments.

Click Here to Buy Now: $60.00

What we like

  • The combination of ceramic and wood offers a tactile and visual experience that enhances relaxation.
  • Holds enough tea for those who enjoy longer, slower tea sessions.

What we dislike

  • Not suitable for microwave or dishwasher use, requiring more careful maintenance.
  • Lacks double-wall or thermal features, so tea may cool faster than in insulated mugs.

4. Leaf Vein Tea

Traditional tea bags often contain plastics or other synthetics that persist in the environment. Leaf Vein Tea Bags address this by using 100% biodegradable materials, inspired by the lush green mountains of China’s Yunnan province. Each tea bag is crafted from actual rubber leaf veins, creating a natural filtration system that allows the full flavor and essence of the leaves to infuse your cup.

The packaging itself is equally thoughtful, made from mulberry bark paper and tea leaf waste, and it subtly enhances the brewing experience with a delicate tea aroma. The process of picking up a leaf-shaped bag and placing it into your cup evokes the sensory pleasure of harvesting tea leaves by hand. Beyond being environmentally friendly, these tea bags offer optimal filtration, preserving taste while minimizing waste. After brewing, you can dispose of the entire bag guilt-free, knowing it will break down naturally.

What we like

  • All components decompose naturally, making disposal worry-free and eco-friendly.
  • Natural leaf vein design provides excellent filtration without compromising taste or aroma.

What we dislike

  • Designed for one-time use, which may not appeal to those who prefer reusable options.
  • As a specialty product, it may not be as widely available as conventional tea bags.

5. Hug Cup

The Hug Cup is a charming and thoughtfully designed piece that reflects the idea that everyday objects deserve special attention and personal connection. Unlike traditional mugs with side handles, the Hug Cup features an innovative design that allows users to securely grip the cup while directly experiencing the soothing warmth of their drink.

The cup has a unique tunnel-like opening through its body for your finger, enabling you to enjoy the heat from your beverage without risking discomfort or burns to your palm. This approach not only enhances the tactile experience of drinking but also fosters a more intimate and mindful interaction with your cup. The designer, Imre, wanted to create a vessel that feels personal and comforting in daily use, transforming a simple act like enjoying a cup of tea or coffee into a moment of gentle connection and warmth.

What we like

  • Offers a refreshing and thoughtful update to the classic mug design.

What we dislike

  • The unconventional handle may require some getting used to.

Coffee and milk glasses have a simple but fun way to tell which drink it holds

]]>

We can probably easily tell at a glance what we’re drinking, especially if the cup or mug we’re drinking from is clear as glass. But what if that glass had a special trick that would literally spell out its contents? Sounds like a Harry Potter prop, definitely, and we’re probably decades away from such a smart piece of drinkware that can clearly label what you pour inside it. But as some would say, “fake it till you make it,” and these simple-looking clear glasses and mugs definitely try.

At first glance, they seem like normal transparent glasses, but once you pour milk or coffee, their magic starts to appear. It almost feels like they’re magically telling you which drink they’re holding, but once you realize the trick, you’re bound to smile at the silly yet effective mind games that these “text-changing” glasses play.

Designer: TOAL

It definitely sounds like a helpful feature to have a cup that tells you in bold letters what’s inside. Of course, if the cup is transparent anyway, it becomes more of a fun detail that adds a little flavor to your favorite drink. Figuratively, of course. These glasses and mugs have Japanese words for coffee and milk written on them, and only one or the other is visible, depending on which one is actually poured inside.

It’s really a simple visual trick that takes advantage of the natural colors of these two drinks. Coffee is normally black or dark brown, depending on the brew, so the dark “Milk” text vanishes when the glass holds coffee. The opposite is true for white milk, making the white “Coffee” label invisible. And when you mix the two together? You see both words appear, indicating a mixture of both liquids.

Of course, the illusion breaks down if you pour in any other color of liquid or if the glass’s contents go below these words. It’s not a trick that will completely amaze your guests, but it’s good enough to have a laugh or draw a smile to anyone who figures it out. Plus, it’s always fun to watch one or the other word disappear, only to reappear when you mix coffee and milk.

As for the drinkware itself, it’s pretty standard clear glass, though there are different designs that use heat-resistant glass. That sadly means you can’t use the same vessel for both hot and cold drinks, though having a collection of these doesn’t seem to be a drawback. The text is printed using silk printing, which the brand says is more durable than either UV or pad printing but could still peel off if a strong impact is applied to the printed area.

]]>

There are two kinds of beer drinkers: those who prefer to just drink it straight from the can or bottle and think that other ways of drinking it is sacrilege, and those that prefer to have it poured out in a glass so they can enjoy the taste more as they clink and drink with others. If you’re the latter kind of beer drinker, you might also have particular rituals you enjoy, like how the beer is poured into the glass, what kind of glass you’re drinking from, and also how you drink “cheers”, “prost” or “kanpai” when you’re drinking with friends. There are also those who want to have a unique kind of glass to drink from that would enhance the beer drinking experience.

Design: Nendo for Saporro

If you’re the latter kind of beer drinker, you’d want to have a perfectly designed glass to enjoy your Saporro Black Label beer. They partnered with design company Nendo, who also previously made The Perfect 3Way Glass, to create The Perfect Cheers Glass. It is a pair of glasses that are made of crystal. These are actually manufactured in an atelier in Crystal Valley in the Czech Republic. It’s a place known as the center of glass manufacturing and they have an accuracy of 0.1 mm.

The Perfect Cheers Glasses allows you to enjoy your glass of Black Label beer with not one or two but four out of your five major sense. You can taste the beer of course and smell it as you drink it from your glass. There’s also the added senses of sight as the crystal clear glasses give you a clear view of your drink and the stems are shaped like bells. Lastly, you get an added sound element to your drinking because when you clink them together, you get a bell-like tone to punctuate your “cheers”.

These pair of glasses aren’t for sale though. You’ll have to enter Sapporo’s raffle to get a chance to win. You have to be a Club Black Label member and purchase eligible products, specifically the Sapporo Draft Beer Black Label. You get 1 point for the 350 ml and 2 points for the 500 ml and you just have to scan and upload the receipt for the eligible products. They’re giving away 4,800 pairs of The Perfect Cheers Glasses and the prizes will be shipped around mid-July 2025.

Most of us probably still haven’t recovered from Christmas and related holidays just yet. We’ve just recently taken down most decorations and pretty soon we’ll be engulfed with everything Valentine’s. And also, it’s never too early to start thinking about Easter since in about two months or so, we’ll be celebrating that special day. While not everyone of course believes and celebrates that holidays, there are related designs and products that everyone can still enjoy, especially if it’s about gathering and celebrating the moments together.

Designer: IKEA

Swedish brand IKEA is probably one of the first brands to announce or release Easter-related products. Their TJÄRLEK collection celebrates not just this season but also spring, color, warmth, and everything whimsical. Most of the items in the collection carry soft colors particularly pastels, floral patterns, and of course, since it is Easter after all, you have bunny-inspired designs. You get glassware, textiles, and hand-painted watercolors as part of the collection which celebrates not just your holiday celebrations but can add some fun and color all throughout the year or whenever you feel like it.

For the bunny-inspired elements, you have a bowl with a lid and an egg cup, which can serve as bunny decorations when you’re not using it for their functional purposes. You also have a colorful branch which is purely for decoration and you can change and add decorations depending on the season. The hanging ornaments (set of 6) come in colorful colors as well. There are also glasses in pastel colored stems, flower-shaped side plates, bowls, egg cups, and baking cups, and some round, pastel-colored vases. You also have the hand-painted and colorful place mats and paper napkins, with the latter also having floral-designed ones.

If you have all of these items in your dining table, living room, and whatever space you need them to be, then you’ll have a fun, colorful, and playful aesthetic. You don’t have to actually celebrate Easter but if this is your kind of design and if you love everything IKEA, this is a collection that you wouldn’t mind having. The playful and fun designs to the TJÄRLEK collection may be the fun look that you will welcome after all the red hearts and flowers we’ll be seeing this February.

Most will probably just put them away in some cupboard or closet until the next social gathering requires their use. It’s definitely not a big deal, but maybe you have, at one point in time, stopped to wonder if that’s really all there is to drinkware. As it turns out, it isn’t.

Trying to redefine drinking glass design by giving it a second job, these simple-looking vessels serve different functions depending on whether it’s right side up or upside down. A drinkware when upright and a candle holder when flipped, the design gives the glass something to do when it’s not in use. And no, that doesn’t mean putting a tealight candle inside the glass, making it unhygienic and potentially damaging.

Designer: Traga

There are probably some instances when candles are indeed placed inside these small drinking glasses, which can actually look enchanting and romantic to some extent. That, however, also means the end of the glass’ life as a drinking glass, which unnecessarily limits its function to one or the other. You can have both, as proven by this rather unusual drinkware. And the solution isn’t even that complicated.

At first glance, the Podio Cup looks nothing out of the ordinary, just a small drinking glass with an uncharacteristically tall base. That base, however, turns out to be hollow, so that when you flip the glass over, it becomes a vessel of its own. It’s a small container, of course, but just the perfect size for a tealight candle. Simple and elegant, it gives the glasses added value even when you don’t have guests over.

These glasses also have another somewhat hidden talent. You can stack the glasses together while upside down, and the sides will never touch each other because of the small gap between each glass. This prevents them from scratching each other while also creating an eye-catching totem-like arrangement that will surely get your guests talking. You never have to keep and hide these glasses away ever again.

The glasses are crafted using borosilicate, which makes them perfect for both cold juices and espresso shots as well. The bodies are clear and completely transparent, but the bases have different tinted color options. The latter gives an even more interesting visual with a flame, as the candlelight gets mixed with the colors, setting a different mood depending on which glass is used.

Jeans are a staple in most people’s wardrobes. The moment it starts to fray or fade (unless that’s part of your fashion statement), you either give it to someone else or just throw it away. There are those who donate it to organizations that upcycle or recycle but oftentimes, it just gets thrown in the trash. Since the material is strong enough, there are a lot of things you can do with it and this designer experimented with combining it with different materials to make it the main character.

Designer: Junghyun Kim

The Denim Project turned discarded denims into something that may last longer than if you’re wearing it. They were able to bundle and ground it and then combine it with various other materials like wood glue, plaster, and resin. What they were able to create are decorative plates which can serve as part of your aesthetic and decoration in the kitchen or living room. Well, technically you can also actually use it as plates for when you’re eating. If you’re an Asian mom though, those plates will remain on the shelf.

The decorative plates have a white and blue colourway since denim is of course colored blue. This color combination is pretty familiar to a lot of households especially those that like the aesthetics of The Great Wave of Kanagawa, a woodblock print by Japanese artist Hokusai. There are hexagonal plates that also can serve as trays while there are coaster-like smaller versions that have stands.

As the denim is reborn as these plates, they will have a longer lifespan than when they were used as clothes. Well, unless of course they’re dropped and broken but even those can be recycled and re-used.
